How to Reach Nashik for the Kumbh Mela 2027

Nashik is one of the easiest pilgrimage cities to reach in Maharashtra — well connected by road and rail, with airports close by. Here's every way in, plus how local travel changes during the Mela.

Nashik sits in north Maharashtra, roughly 165 km from Mumbai and 210 km from Pune. Trimbakeshwar, the second Kumbh site, is about 28 km west of Nashik city. Whether you're coming from within Maharashtra or across the country, you have good options.

By air

There's no large international airport at Nashik itself, so most pilgrims fly into one of these:

  • Mumbai (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) — about 165 km away, ~3.5 to 4 hours by road. The best choice for international travellers and most domestic cities.
  • Nashik (Ozar) Airport — about 20–24 km from the city, with limited domestic flights. Handy when the schedule suits you, but check current connectivity.
  • Pune Airport — about 210 km away, useful if you're combining the trip with southern Maharashtra.
Tip: during the Mela, flights and trains into the region fill up early. If you're flying, book well ahead of the Shahi Snan dates.

By train

The main railhead is Nashik Road railway station, about 8 km from the city centre and on the busy Mumbai–Bhusawal line. It's well served by trains from Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Nagpur and many other cities. From the station, taxis, autos and city buses run to Panchavati and the ghats — though expect special arrangements and diversions during peak Mela days.

By road

Nashik is very well connected by highway and is comfortable to reach by car or bus:

FromDistanceApprox. drive
Mumbai~165 km3.5–4 hours
Pune~210 km4.5–5 hours
Shirdi~90 km2–2.5 hours
Aurangabad~190 km4 hours
Trimbakeshwar (from Nashik)~28 km45 min–1 hour

State transport (MSRTC) and private buses run frequently from Mumbai, Pune and other cities. Self-driving is straightforward outside the Mela, but during peak bathing days expect parking restrictions and longer approach times.

Getting around during the Mela

This is where a Kumbh trip differs from a normal visit. On and around the Shahi Snan days, the administration manages enormous crowds with measures that change how you move:

  • Many roads near Ramkund and the ghats become vehicle-free; you walk the last stretch.
  • Parking is shifted to designated lots on the outskirts, with shuttle buses ferrying pilgrims in.
  • Some routes are made one-way to keep the crowd flowing safely.
  • Between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, expect heavier traffic than the usual 45-minute run.
Plan for the walk. Even with transport sorted, you'll likely walk a fair distance to the ghat on a bath day. Wear comfortable footwear and carry water — especially if elders are with you.

Let us handle the logistics

We're based in Nashik, so we know which approach is open on which day and where the shuttle points are. We can arrange pickups from the airport or station, transport between Nashik and the Snan and Trimbakeshwar, and a guide who keeps your group together. Tell us your arrival details and we'll take it from there.

Arrive without the stress.

Send us your arrival date and city. We'll sort the pickup, the local transport and the route to the ghat on your Snan day.
