You'll be on your feet, in crowds, possibly in the rain, often far from your room for hours. The goal is to carry enough to stay comfortable and safe, but little enough to move easily. Here's the checklist we give every pilgrim.
Clothing & footwear
- Modest, easy-to-dry clothes — light cotton works well; bring a spare set for after the bath.
- A towel and a change of clothes for after the Snan.
- Comfortable slip-on footwear you can remove easily and don't mind leaving outside temples.
- A light shawl or stole for temple darshan and cooler early mornings.
Monsoon gear (important for 2027)
The 2027 Simhastha falls in the rainy months, so don't skip this:
- A compact umbrella or raincoat — a single downpour can otherwise ruin your day.
- A waterproof pouch or zip-lock bags for your phone, documents and cash.
- Quick-dry footwear rather than anything that soaks and stays wet.
Documents & money
- ID proof for everyone in your group.
- Minimal cash in small denominations, plus one card kept separately.
- Printed or saved copies of your stay and travel bookings.
Health & safety
- Personal medicines and prescriptions, plus a small first-aid kit.
- Water bottle and a few dry snacks.
- Hand sanitiser and a small pack of tissues/wipes.
- Power bank — charging points and networks get stretched.
- Sunscreen and a cap for long waits between showers.
For families: write your phone number on a slip in each child's pocket, or use an ID band, and fix a meeting point. See our tips & safety guide.
What to leave behind
- Expensive jewellery and unnecessary valuables.
- Large, heavy bags — you'll be carrying everything for hours.
- Anything you'd be heartbroken to lose in a crowd.
